How many of you use facebook ?
Sorry, wrong question.
How many of you dont use facebook ?I hope none of you might answer -’I Don’t use facebook’.
Its the reality.
Billions of people use facebook which makes it the largest social networking community in the world.
The main part of facebook is your profile. This is because your profile reflects your attitude and your personality.
Generally a hot profile pictures gathers much more friend requests and attraction than a silly one. Its like your virtual Identity. And I hope that none of you wants that you are considered as a wrong person in your society. So maintaining a good profile is considered as one of the major task in the online world.
But what happens if you lose control of your profile ?
I guess in today’s world it can be really dangerous.
It is commonly called as hacking.
And the most common method of gaining control over your facebook profile is phishing. In this process, the attackers sends the link of a website controlled by him, which looks exactly similar to any popular website like facebook, gmail, yahoo, or any bank’s official website, etc, which will ask you to log in to your account and as soon as you enter your secret information like your username and password or credit card information, etc, the information you entered goes to the attacker and the attacker gains access to your account. Now the attacker can do anything he wishes with your account like posting vulgar pictures or statuses or sending fake messages or using your credit card to shop anything, etc, etc.Tips to Identify Phishing Page.
The most simple and shortest method of identifying any phishing page is the URL of the page. For example if you see superfast-facebook .com instead of facebook.com or quick-gmail .com instead of gmail.com or any other URL instead of the original URL then just go to the address bar, enter any other website’s URL and surf your favourite site. Because it is a phishing page and it will be better if you stay away from it.
Even a change in a single word in the URL can cause you to go to another website.
So check closely and be carefully.
Now if you think that you are unable to identify the phishing page by the first method then you can use this method also.
According to me it is the best method to identify any phishing page.
Just right click anywhere on the page and click on see page source.
Now find for the word ‘action’. Generally page sources are very long and finding a single word may take hours, so you can just press ctrl+F and then type ‘action’ in the textbox and you will get the word. Now if you see anything like something.php next to action, then just smile and say that -”you are not going to get me fooled so easily.;)”
Then it is a Phishing Page.
So we suggest you these two ways to recognize phishing pages easily. Along with this, we also suggest you not to reply with your secret information to any emails which asks for it, even if it looks genuine. Its not a big task to make a genuine looking email address.
