Jagadish, an army men and a secret agent of DIA (Defence Intelligence Agency), returns to Mumbai on leave. His parents wants him to tie the knot with a girl chosen by them. He meets Nisha (Kajal Aggarwal), a boxer. The first 40 minutes of the film is entertaining and it is a fun ride. But the next twenty minutes is not engaging. It is because the director takes too much of time to arrive to the main story.
However, just 15 minutes before the interval, the story gets pace and draws the audience attention. Jagadish spoils the plan of a serial bomb blasts with the help of his 11 army friends. They kill 12 sleeper cells in 12 different places at the same time. The kingpin played by Vidyut Jamwal is shocked and decides to hunt down the people, who crashed his plans. The first half ends with the one-liner, 'I'm waiting'. The second half is how they meet and fight.
AR Murugadoss has brought freshness in the story department. But his execution is not up to the mark. The screenplay is dragging at many parts and the length of the movie is worrisome. Like Vikram's Thaandavam and Surya's Maattrraan, the run time of the movie is close to two hour and forty five minutes and this could not be liked by general audience. The Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal's love story gets boring after a while. Though their affair looks interesting in the first 30 minutes, it loses the essence in the later part.
However, we can't ignore the plus points of Thuppakki. Firstly, the action sequences are well shot. Secondly, Vijay is brilliant in the role and his character is well-written. Thirdly, the film has a good story even though Vijay-Kajal love scenes does not go well at parts. The conclusion is Thuppakki is an entertaining flick even though the mood of the audience fluctuate every now and then.

Vijay is stupendous in the role of an army officer. He brings a lot of energy to his character and thrills the audience in action sequences. Kajal Aggarwal looks good. Vidyut Jamwal has done decent job and Satyan is good.
'Google google...' and 'Antarctica...' songs are our pick. Harris Jayaraj's background score is brilliant and sets the perfect tone to watch the film. Action sequences are marvellously shot, and Santosh Sivan's cinematography is praise worthy. However, Sreekar Prasad could have been sharp in his editing department. If unnecessary scenes are removed, the movie would have had a different look.
Verdict: Overall, Thuppakki is enjoyable.
